My 1 year old son is teething. He is getting his 1-yr. molars. This makes his gums swollen and sore. This makes him wake up at night. So, for the past few nights my wife and I have been getting up with him.
The question is, “Am I going to redeem this time?” (Eph. 5:16).
I spend the time rocking him back to sleep in prayer and Theological and practical thinking. I meditate on Scriptures I have been reading. I think through difficult Theological issues I’ve been wrestling with. I pray for my wife, boys, family, friends, church members, and other issues.
I am becoming more and more grateful for the time that God is giving me. There are so many good things that I “need” to be doing throughout the day that this time of comtemplation and prayer gets shoved aside far too often. That is why, I suppose, the God and Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has wisely and graciously chosen to give me more opportunities to redeem the time during these “evil days”. At night, holding my son, there is not much more I can do, but pray to my King, praise my God, savoringly consider my Savior, and love my Lord with all of my heart, soul, MIND, and strength.
So I encourage and exhort you to make the most of the time the Sovereign LORD gives you, buying it back when you can. I pray that as you redeem the time God will use it to change you, refresh you, grow you, encourage you, convict you, and strengthen you as you commune with Him for His glory!
