There is an “adult” store advertised right off a major hwy which I drive down many times a week.  It says that it is pure pleasure.

But is it really pure pleasure?

Purity has two parts: Clean/Not wicked and Unmixed/100%.

It is clear, from Scripture, that lustful, pornographic pleasure is not clean and unwicked pleasure.  It is dirty, sinful, evil.

But I think that it is equally clear that lustful, pornographic pleasure is also not unmixed and not 100% pleasure.  It is, as most sin is, fun only for a short season, and in the end it leaves us more hollow and more shameful and more guilty and more unhappy (especially for us Christians).

But the point is that sin, although it seems to be pure, 100% pleasure while in the midst of it, really has a mixture of all kinds of miseries.

Let’s not become tricked into thinking that we can have a little purity or even alot of purity.  There is no such thing, for purity, by its very definition, is always 100%, without mixture.  If we have a little good in our motives (or even 99.9%) we do not have pure motives.  (Ex. “I no my wife would like to have some new lingerie, so I’ll look for some for her on the internet.”  Maybe she would, but don’t trick yourself into thinking that your motives are pure in such a thing.  There might be some or even much good in your motives, but surely not 100%.  This we should avoid.)

Oh that we would seek true purity for the love of others and the glory of God in Jesus Christ!

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” – Matt. 5:8
