Question 13: Is there more than one God?

Answer: There is only one living and true God.

Scripture: Deuteronomy 4:35, 39; 6:4; Mark 12:29; Isaiah 44:6; 45:5-6; I Timothy 1:17; 2:5; Jeremiah 10:10; Jude 25; Psalm 96:4-5.

Deuteronomy 6:4 – ’Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.’

Jeremiah 10:10 – But the LORD is the true GodHe is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure His indignation.

Psalm 96:4-5 – For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. 5For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD made the heavens.

Comment: There are “gods” which are idols, but they are not “living”. And there are “gods” which are angels or demons, but they are not “true” God, that is, they are not eternal, infinite, unchanging, (see Q & A # 12) etc…. Only one God is living and true, the God who has revealed Himself in His Word: God the LORD.
